The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs the Hon Darren Chester MP announced on the 5th of August 2020 that Integra has been added as a new provider to the Government’s Psychiatric Assistance Dog Program.
The Commonwealth Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) commenced, in 2019, funding a Psychiatric Assistance Dog Program as part of the Rehabilitation Appliance Program (RAP) for veterans that have a diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). To be eligible for a DVA Psychiatric Assistance Dog you must be a military veteran, who has a Veteran Gold or White Card, have a diagnosis of PTSD from a psychiatrist and be currently engaged in treatment with their mental health professional for a minimum of three months.
The following links to DVA provide further information about this RAP funded initiative and how to apply. Veterans should contact DVA or discuss this program with their treating clinician to enquire about eligibility for the DVA psychiatric assistance dog program:
Integra will shortly be establishing a 1800 free toll service to provide clinicians and veterans with additional information about this initiative.
