Charlie now lives permanently with his male first responder, Bruce, in regional New South Wales (NSW) – he is currently working towards his Public Access Test.
Since arriving at his new home in NSW from Guide Dogs Victoria (GDV), Charlie has been supported, with training through Integra Service Dogs Australia, to develop a routine and support tasks for his Handler. In the nine months since his arrival and further training and development as an assistance dog, Charlie has been a lifesaver for his human Handler.
He has filled in as an assistant home-school teacher, during extended COVID-19 lockdowns. Charlie has helped his Handler to build a routine and get active, helped Bruce to reduce anxiety and to start to reclaim activities that Bruce had previously lost the confidence to undertake alone.
Charlie is extraordinary and with the support of GDV and Integra has made a life-changing impact on Bruce and his family.
