Brendan & Jensen

“Jensen is advancing in his role as Service Dog and great mate. Jensen is now an integral part of our family and is much loved”.

Brendan and Jensen

I served with the Victoria Police for nearly 30 years – I was diagnosed with PTSD when I retired in 1995. However, some years after retirement I suffered the loss of an eye – this exasperated the PTSD, and my life went into a spiral.

It was suggested that a dog may help as part of the recovery process – so my journey began with Jensen.

Jensen came to our home in July 2020 from Guide Dogs Victoria.  He is a very big, three-year-old, Golden Labrador and after a few months of intensive work, he settled into his new role and home.

My condition includes Hypervigilance and Night Terrors.  Jensen is by my side constantly; he watches and is aware when my mood and sleep pattern changes.  He is there when I awake after those terrible dreams. Just having him nearby is magic.

With the help of Ben Johnson, Integra Service Dogs Australia, and trainer, Tessa Stow, Jensen is advancing in his role as Service Dog and great mate. Jensen is now an integral part of our family and is much loved.
